Azercell Telecom, the Azerbaijan based GSM operator says that it has installed 29 new radio base stations for subscribers during May. Among its total amount, 15 stations are installed in Baku, 3 in Absheron, the rest are installed in Aghsu, Barda, Jalilabad, Ismayilli, Goychay, Shamakhy, Sheki, Tovuz, Zagatala and Zardab regions.
Azercell has now installed 2 Home Location Registers, 15 Base Stations Controller Systems, 16 Mobile Services Switching Centers and 1403 radio base stations throughout the country.
Figures from the Mobile World database report that Azercell ended Q1 2008 with some 3.2 million customers and a market share of just under 64%. The country itself has a population penetration level estimated at around 62%.
Azercell Telecom was established on January 19, 1996. It is 51.3% owned by Fintur (58% owned by TeliaSonera, 42% by Turkcell) and 48.7% is held by Turkey based Cenay Inshaat.
