Willcom Selects Starent Networks' Multimedia Core Solution for PHS Network

Japan's Willcom has selected Starent Networks’ ST40 multimedia core platform solution for its Next Generation - Personal Handyphone System (XG-PHS) to provide multimedia services to subscribers.

Willcom announced plans to start XG-PHS service in 2009. This network will provide subscribers high-speed internet access on their mobile network. Willcom will use Starent Networks’ multi-access, multi-service ST40 multimedia core platform with PHS Access Gateway and Home Agent functionality.

Willcom said they selected the Starent Networks solution based on its ability to integrate multiple network functions and services in a single platform, its successful interoperability with a wide range of radio network infrastructure elements, and its proven demonstration of ASN Gateway and Home Agent capabilities.

“Working with an operator like Willcom that seeks to offer innovative solutions to their market, is a tremendous advantage to Starent Networks as we continue to enhance our offerings,” said Ashraf Dahod, CEO of Starent Networks. “Willcom’s deployment of our access gateway and home agent in their PHS network further demonstrates the flexibility, power and intelligence of our multimedia solutions. We are appreciative of the opportunity.”
