Huawei Wins Bangladeshi GSM Contract

Huawei says that it has signed a contract with Bangladesh's Grameenphone for large-scale capacity expansion and enhancement of Next Generation GSM Core and Radio network. Huawei’s latest multi-platform All-IP solutions will enable the convergence of radio access networks, providing a smooth evolution to 3G and future access technologies.

Grameenphone is the largest telecommunications service provider in Bangladesh with more than 18 million subscribers as of May 2008. It has a nationwide EDGE-enabled network, covering nearly the entire population. Grameenphone is a joint venture between Telenor of Norway (62%) and Grameen Telecom of Bangladesh (38%).

No financial details of the contract were disclosed.
