Nokia Siemens Wins Malaysian 3G Contract

Nokia Siemens Networks has won a contract to expand CelcomÃ's 3G radio and packet core network in Malaysia. CelcomÃ's upgraded network will be based on Nokia Siemens NetworksÃ' ultra high broadband access network (with the Nokia Siemens Networks HSPA technology).

The Combi SGSN supports both 2G and 3G networks in one system, letting operators dynamically allocate capacity to the network where it is needed without adding new hardware. The SGSN can also be software upgraded to prepare an operatorÃ's network for "flat architecture", which will be part of Long Term Evolution mobile networks.

No financial details were provided.

According to figures from the Mobile World database, Celcom ended last year with some 7.2 million subscribers - and a market share of just over 30%, making it the second largest operator in the country after Maxis.
