China Unicom Sued Over SMS Spam

China Unicom and Guangzhou based SMS marketing firm, Ewing Science and Technology are being sued by a Unicom subscriber surnamed Wang for sending SMS spam, reports Sina News. Wang is suing the two companies for RMB 3,333 in the Beijing Xicheng District Court, said the news article.

Wang began to explain the severity of the case by saying he received several spam messages, including advertisements for wines and olive oil, while conducting business.

According to the report, Wang has received a letter from the Ministry of Industry and Information (MII) copied to China Unicom and Ewing ordering them to apologize for the commercial messages. The report said that Wang is the first person to sue over SMS spam.
