Iphone Coming to Latin America

Another day - another iPhone announcement. Today's is from dominant Latin America operator, America Movil - which says it has secured the distribution deal for Apple's iPhone handset. As with the recent announcements from Vodafone, Telecom Italia and Rogers Communications, the launch is for some time later this year.

America Movil is the largest mobile operator in Latin America with just over 159 million subscribers at the end of March. It is significantly ahead of Spain's Telefonica which had around 102 million customers at the end of last year.

America Movil's founder and chairman is Carlos Slim, one of the richest man in the world, with an estimated net worth of around US$68 billion. The company controls mobile networks in 16 countries.
