Pannon Using Geothermal Heating for its New HQ Building

Hungary based mobile operator, Pannon has installed an environmentally friendly heating system in its new head office - using heat from deep underground. The heating/cooling system will make use of 180 geothermic heat probes drilled 100 meters deep to provide cold and hot water regulating temperature in the building. This is reported to be the seventh largest project of its kind in Europe.

Planned new headquarters

Construction of the new Pannon headquarters began in the summer of 2007 and is proceeding on schedule.

The building is an integral part of its surrounding environment. It occupies only 7.5 percent of the 8-hectare plot instead of the statutory allowed 30 percent. This way, Pannon will leave 69 percent of the area an open green space instead of the required 40 percent. The new headquarters is expected to be completed in 2009.

Telenor has a 100 per cent ownership interest in Pannon, the second largest mobile operator in Hungary.
