APA - Lagos (Nigeria) The Chairman of Infrastructure Hitech Services (IHS) Nigeria, Mr. Bashar El-Rufai, Friday said that more than 60 million Nigerians in the rural areas were yet to have access to telecommunications services.
El-Rufai told journalists in Lagos that these Nigerians, who are price sensitive, posed a challenge to the operators that are serving the high class consumers.
He added that by next year, there would be price wars among the operators to get good market shares of the 60 million Nigerians yet to be served.
“So quite a lot of interesting things are going to happen in the market by next year because new operators will be joining,’’ he said.
El-Rufai, who is also the Vice Chairman of Intercellular Nigeria Plc, urged the operators to redefine the way they do business in order to survive.
Furthermore, he pointed out that part of the poor quality of service experienced by the subscribers was as a result of the high demand from the customers, and the inability of operators to cope.
He, however, blamed some of the operators for not putting enough efforts in ensuring good quality services and advised them to collaborate in order to provide good quality services and lower tariff to the subscribers.
Established in 2001, IHS Nigeria Ltd provides support service, manufactures and installs telecommunication towers.
