Foxconn Reported to Have Won 3g Iphone Contract

Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), which currently manufactures the Apple iPhone is reported to have secured an order for the long expected 3G model. The Taiwan based DigiTimes, citing the Chinese language, Commercial Times newspaper says that the company has been instructed by Apple to prepare for production to start by the end of May.

The Commercial Times also cited sources at component suppliers as saying they have been instructed by Apple to begin preparing material supplies by the end of May.

The paper said that initial shipments are expected to be in the order of 3 million within the first month of sales - with total sales of around 25 million handsets over the lifetime of the model.

Most Apple watchers expect a 3G iPhone to be announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference 2008 (WWDC 2008) in June.
