Romanian CDMA Operator Expands Wi-Fi Coverage

Romanian CDMA operator, Zapp has started a roll out of Wi-Fi based hotspots to 60 petrol filling stations operated by the OMV company - increasing the number of Zapp Hot Spot locations to over 330 throughout Romania.

Since 2004, Zapp has installed "hot spots" in hundreds of locations such as hotels and coffee shops and other public and commercial spaces, remaining until today the largest public wireless network to offer broadband connectivity in Romania.

In order to offer wireless access, a filling station must have an appropriate seating zone, such as a restaurant or coffee shop. In Romania currently 230 filling stations offer this facility, Zapp providing wireless broad band access in 90 of them, out of which 60 are OMV stations.

The recent deployment in OMV filling stations is the second biggest Wi-Fi rollout of Zapp after their collaboration with Fly Taxi in 2007. This project saw 100 cars serving the international airport being equipped with hot spot technology and pre paid data cards.

Just as in other Zapp Hot Spot locations the access is free for a testing period of 10 minutes after which users can connect to the hotspot via Zapp Internet Express Card.
