Smith Micro Software and NeuStar Deliver IM Platform

Smith Micro Software says that it has partnered with NeuStar, a provider of clearinghouse and directory services to introduce a SIP/MSRP-compliant, IMS-based Instant Messaging Client Server solution. Fully tested within NeuStar's development interoperability program, Smith Micro's client supports enhanced Instant Multimedia Messaging and end-to-end presence functionality for popular Windows Mobile and Symbian devices.

The QuickLink Mobile IMS client is compliant with OMA Presence and XDM (group management) standards, and supports the IMS environment by providing Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based registration, connection management, presence management, group management and mobile instant messaging (IM) functionality. As such, it is ready for interconnectivity with multiple IM communities such as AOL, Google, MSN and Yahoo!, as well as integration with IMS core networks. Mobile operators can now provide their customers with a set of customized, value-added IM and Chat features that can be coupled with existing IM and Chat communities.

"As the fixed and mobile worlds converge, the industry needs IMS-ready devices and applications," said Patrick Lilley, Vice President and General Manager of Device Solutions Group at Smith Micro. "NeuStar's Instant Messaging and Presence Server, as well as Smith MicroĆ's mobile IMS client solutions, are convergence-ready and available. Operators are now able to invest in this solution knowing that they are fully interoperable and compliant with the market's latest standards."
