Nokia's Indian factory has passed the 125 million handset mark since it was set up just over two years ago. Based on past performance, the company has plans to increase the staffing levels from 8,000 to over 13,000 and increase output at its manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu.
The company has already invested US$210 million in their manufacturing unit
and would invest US$75 million in 2008 for the additional ramp up at the plant.
The company has termed the Indian plant as one of the best of nine facilities
worldwide in terms cost and quality.
"Quality and cost wise, India is perhaps the best factory. Nokia is
exporting Made in India cell phones to more than 50 countries," Nokia India
Vice President and Managing Director D ShivaKumar told The Economic Times
newspaper.
