The USA wireless industry trade body, CTIA spent just under US$6.9 million on political lobbying in 2007, according to a disclosure from the Senate's public records office. The group spent nearly $2.7 million in the first half of the year - ramping up to a $4.2 million in the second half.
This reflects the public and political interest in the recently concluded radio spectrum auction, and is probably reflective of the increased efforts by the likes of Google to change the way the auction was carried out.
Lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches, under a federal law enacted in 1995.
