DoCoMo Seeks to Block Softbank Mobile Phone

A row between two of Japan's mobile operators has broken out after DoCoMo filed for an injection to stop rival Softbank from selling a handset aimed at older people. The company claims that Softbank's phone, manufactured by Toshiba is too similar to its own easy-use handset made by Fujitsu in 2006.

The two handsets come designed with easier menus and larger fonts on the screens to make them more suitable for older users.

Softbank has refuted the complaint and says that it will fight the legal injunction.

Softbank brought the network from Vodafone in 2006 and has been aggressive in cutting tariffs and growing its subscriber base. The company has added more new subscribers than its rivals for the past ten consecutive months.
