Ericsson to Be Sole Supplier of 3G Network in Paraguay
Ericsson has been chosen by Paraguay's operator, Personal to supply a nationwide WCDMA/HSPA network. Under the one-year frame agreement, Ericsson will be the sole supplier of a WCDMA/HSPA radio network and a fully IP-based common core network, including Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch Solution. The deal also includes a range of professional services, such as network design, network deployment and systems integration, network review and knowledge transfer.
Deployment has started. No financial details were provided.
Personal is the country's second largest operator, having ended last year with some 1.6 million subscribers according to figures from the Mobile World database. The operator is also recorded as having a market share of 36%, behind Telefonica's 46%. Two other operators, AMX and Hola have roughly 9% each.
Established in June of 1998, and operated by Nu'cleo S.A, Personal offers mobile telephony services throughout Paraguay. Nu'cleo S.A. is made up of ABC Communications (Paraguayan group) (32.5 percent) with the remaining 67.5 percent owned by Personal Telecom, Telecom group (W of Argentina - Investments), and TIM (Telecom Italy Mobile) of Telecom Italy.
