Brewing Up the Bible on Mobile Phones

Israeli network operator, Pelephone has launched a new application which puts the entire Hebrew text of the Bible onto its customers mobile phones. Developed for Pelephone by Zed Mobile from Israel, the new offering runs on Qualcomm's Brew platform. Specific searches can be performed by book or by chapter and users can opt to be updated about the weekly tractate.

Motti Cohen, director of Pelephone's content division said Pelephone continually expands its broad service offering with true added value. He said, "Pelephone brings the entire Bible directly to the cell phone, making it available for them any time or place they wish to read or refer to it." Cohen estimated that the service will prove very popular among many of the Operator's subscribers, including boys who prepare their Haftara reading for the Blessing over the Torah as part of the Bar Mitzvah ceremony at the Synagogue.

There have been other services from different companies which put versions of the English language Bible on mobile phones, or send daily prayer messages by SMS alerts.
