Telent Completes Delivery of GSM-R Phones to Network Rail

UK based Telent says that it has completed the delivery of 2,000 GSM-R handsets to Network Rail, the UK's rail infrastructure operator. The order, Telent's first for GSM-R handsets, was delivered in record time, providing an essential radio communication service to trains operating on the West Coast Mainline.

Acting as sole supplier in the UK for the SELEX Communications GSM-R handsets, Telent is also providing ongoing technical support to the train and freight operation companies using the radios.

"This GSM-R contract was awarded, following intense competition, on the basis of both price and technical excellence," said Val Stephenson, Project Manager at Network Rail. "The SELEX Communications GSM-R solution, distributed and supported by Telent , was the best match for our requirements and proved to be the most competitive in terms of robustness and price. The positive support we have received from Telent has delivered a solution in record time, tailored to suit the precise needs of our projects."

The announcement comes a month after Telent commenced its three-year contract with Stagecoach South Western trains to provide maintenance and support for the company's stations and control rooms. The contract is the first to be awarded to Telent by a train operating company.
