Airspan Wins 5.85 GHz WiMAX Contract in Ecuador
Ecuador's PuntoNet has awarded a follow on WiMAX contract to Airspan Networks for MicroMAX base stations and related CPE equipment, to expand their nationwide WiMAX services in major cities in Ecuador.
PuntoNet began operations in Quito, Ecuador in 2000 and today is the largest WIMAX operator in the country. PuntoNet has already began deploying WiMAX infrastructure in eight major cities (Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Santo Domingo, Manta, Portoviejo, Quevedo and Machala) and is currently expanding its nationwide WIMAX coverage to an additional six cities in 2008.
"We are pleased to continue working with PuntoNet as they migrate their network to 5.85 GHz WiMAX," said Amit Ancikovsky, Airspan's Vice President & General Manager, Americas. "This initiative highlights the growing demand for WiMAX solutions in South America and Airspan is well placed to answer this need."
MicroMAX is Airspan's family of highly integrated micro-cell base stations with all-in-one outdoor packaging of RF and base-band components. Performance optimized variants for high density roof-top deployments and cost optimized variants for low density / rural deployments are available.
