Austria: Smart Phones Market Expanding
During the last quarter of the year 2007, sales of smartphones in Austria performed much better than in previous quarters. New attractive models with more/ improved multimedia functions are the reason for this positive trend reports GfK. This "new generation" of Smart Phones appeal to new target groups who are not only interested in the pure business functions such as mailing or organising, but also in multimedia functions such as music or photo.
Classic Organisers have been pushed back to a less than 10% share of all organising devices. Correspondingly, sales channel shares are also on the move. Business related channels such as TCS and OER are still dominating, but Technical Superstores and Mass Merchandisers also gained importance last month.
This trend is also expected to continue in 2008; with the channel mix increasingly following the structure of the Mobile Phone market.
