Iliad's Free to Offer Unlimited Calling on iPhone in France
PARIS -(Dow Jones)- French Internet provider Iliad said Thursday that subscribers to its Free brand can use unlocked versions of Apple's iPhone handset to make unlimited calls to French fixed lines.
On its Internet site, Free outlines the necessary steps, including installing software, to make the calls on an unlocked iPhone.
France Telecom's Orange brand has the exclusive rights to market the iPhone in France, but under French law it also has to sell the iPhone without a contract not locked to its own network.
A spokeswoman for Iliad told Dow Jones Newswires that the service would initially be available only to Free customers, but would soon become available to all owners of an unlocked iPhone handset.
