O2 Czech Republic Upgrades CDMA Network to Rev A

Published on: 6th February 2008

Telefonica O2 Czech Republic has enhanced its fixed and mobile broadband services portfolio with new converged services by upgrading its existing CDMA 450 Mhz network to Rev A with a Nortel CDMA solution.

With over five million mobile subscribers, Telefonica O2 Czech Republic is one of the largest providers of wireless services in the country. The company recently announced that it had over 110,000 CDMA customers using services such as O2 Internet Mobile Plus Go which enables users to go online whenever and wherever they are using their O2 mobile Internet connection to surf the Internet at home or on the road.

"With CDMA 1x EV-DO Rev A at 450MHz, Telefonica O2 Czech Republic can offer personal wireless broadband services, with much higher speeds, making it ideal for mobile business users needing to access and send data intensive applications and download and upload large attachments," said Pavel Kolar, chief network infrastructure officer, Telefonica O2 Czech Republic.

In 2006, Nortel and Telefonica O2 Czech Republic successfully demonstrated the world's first CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A call in a commercially operated network at 450 MHz frequency band.
