Smartphones Sales Still Booming in Italy
2007 was an outstanding year for the Italian Smartphones market (+80% in volume vs. 2006, 287.000 units sold). GfK figures show that despite a decrease in the average retail price (-15% vs. December 2006), value turnover reached ¢â€š¬134 million in 2007 (+57% 2007 vs. 2006).
Key factors for market development in 2007 were a wider product range, strong technology innovation and improved design features. The largest product range was reached in December 2007, with 82 different models sold.
Technology innovation was supported by UMTS and Wi-Fi functions. The UMTS standard is responsible for over 50% of total sales, while the Wi-Fi functionality was supported by 71.5% of devices sold during 2007.
Segmentation of sales by design underlines the increasing weight of the Slider form (26% volume in 2007) following the evolution of the Mobile Phones market.
