KPN CEO Says Co is Not in Any Merger Talks With Others

AMSTERDAM -(Dow Jones)- Dutch telecommunications company Royal KPN isn't in talks with other companies regarding a merger, the company's Chief Executive Officer Ad Scheepbouwer said Tuesday.

"We aren't in merger talks with other companies," the KPN CEO told reporters in a conference call, rebuffing recent rumors that KPN is in tie-up talks with Spain's Telefonica or U.S. peer AT&T.

When asked whether KPN itself was looking to make an acquisition, Scheepbouwer replied that the company "focuses on creating shareholder returns and is not actively looking for acquisitions." However the CEO added that "if value enhancing acquisition come by, KPN will not close its eyes".
