Mobitel Slovenia - Overall Decline Offset by 3G Growth
Mobitel Slovenia's Q4 07 results show that it lost customers for the fifth successive quarter, finishing the year on 1.26 million. However, the loss was limited to 1.2% year-on-year, and given Mobitel's dominant position in the Slovenian market this is not an overly worrying result in terms of the overall balance of power in the market.
Preliminary results from Telekom Austria show that its Slovenian subsidiary Si.Mobil finished the year on less than half a million customers, and third player TuĂ…ˇ mobil is still in the tens of thousands having launched services in May. Of course, in the long run Mobitel may have to up its game, but there is little chance of it being knocked off its rather lofty perch in 2008.
Moreover, it has seen excellent growth in its W-CDMA customer base in the past year with an 85.6% uplift taking the year-end figure to 0.19m. Although the company does not report financial figures, one also suspects that growth in the high-value 3G sector will have carried through to the top line.
