MTS Russia - December 2007 Customer Numbers

Mobile TeleSystems, Russia's largest operator, registered 4.14m new connections in Q4 2007 to take its overall total to 85.77m. The fourth quarter total accounted for 43% of the annual total of 9.71m, the figures for the period being boosted by the recent acquisition of Vivacell in Armenia. Again, December was the strongest month of the year with a total of 1.84m new customers - 19% of the annual total.

Russia accounted for the 77% majority of the December total and 73% of the Q4 total, as it outperformed with respect to its contribution to the overall customer base, which was just 70% at the end of the period.

The almost complete arrest of growth in Ukraine was a significant factor in this as subsidiary UMC added precisely 4,000 customers in the whole of 2007. Armenia took the prize for the fastest growing MTS market in Q4 2007 with a 29.5% increase, thanks almost entirely to its performance in October.

The smallest of the operations in Turkmenistan was the best performer in December with a 9.1% improvement, closely followed by Uzdunrobita in Uzbekistan with 8.1%, after record net additions of 210k in December.
