SK Telecom Signs Sony Entertainment Deal
South Korea's SK Telecom says that it has signed a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to provide movie content to its mobile subscribers. SK Telecom customers will have access to a range of TV dramas and Hollywood blockbusters held by Sony's affiliates such as Columbia and Tristar, the company said in a release.
SK Telecom customers will be able to view the latest video content through its mobile multimedia service platforms for between US$1 and US$2.10 per movie or show. Customers who are not using a flat-rate data tariff will face additional download costs though.
Financial details were not disclosed.
"We have already been offering several Korean movies on mobile phones, but this contract is different because of the brand value of Hollywood films," said SK Telecom spokesman, Lee Kyo-hyuk.
