Motorola to Use Qualcomm Chips in 3G Phones
In a brief statement, Motorola has announced that it intends to incorporate Qualcomm chipsets into certain UMTS 3G handsets beginning at the end of 2008 and in 2009. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"Qualcomm is a valued supplier and I am excited about the UMTS opportunities we are pursuing together," said Alain Mutricy, senior vice president, platform technology, Motorola's Mobile Devices business. "This agreement represents a further step in the execution of our silicon strategy."
"Motorola is a market leader committed to delivering innovative products that meet the growing demands for wireless devices," said Sanjay Jha, chief operating officer of Qualcomm and president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. "The expansion of our strong relationship with Motorola helps us work more closely together to deliver the products and solutions that meet consumer needs."
