Sandvine Launches into Wireless and Announces Two Carrier Wins
Sandvine has announced the introduction of its PTS 14000, 10-Gigabit Ethernet platform to mobile data and wireless providers. Sandvine also announced two carrier wins: one with a national property of a pan-European mobile and DSL operator and another with a North American WiMAX carrier.
Designed to meet the needs of the largest tier one providers in the world, Sandvine's PTS 14000 now gives mobile data and wireless providers visibility into their network traffic to fairly allocate network resources and enhance quality of service for multimedia IP-based applications.
"Mobile and wireless data subscribers are realizing the potential to access the Internet on their mobile devices and are taking their favorite online multimedia applications with them wherever they go. Whether it's downloading peer-to-peer files or surfing the Internet, Sandvine is enabling greater mobility by giving service providers intelligent broadband tools to better understand the traffic on their network and apply policies that help allocate resources to enhance the online subscriber experience," said Sandvine President and CEO, Dave Caputo.
With this entry into the wireless space, Sandvine announced the win of a European and a North American customer. The European win is a national property of a pan-European provider that has over a half-million DSL subscribers and approximately 5 million mobile subscribers. The North American WiMAX customer has over 200,000 subscribers. These customers commenced deployment of the 10-Gbps PTS 14000 platform in Q4 2007.
