MediaTek Sampling WCDMA Chips Ahead of Schedule
Taiwan based fabless semiconductor firm, MediaTek is understood to have started shipping initial samples of its new WCDMA chips to some handset vendors - reports the DigiTimes trade magazine. The sampling is ahead of schedule, and the company expects to start commercial sales within the next couple of months.
While the 3G handset chips currently available on the market are mostly meant for adoption by first-tier vendors, MediaTek is said to be elated that samples of its WCDMA chips, which will be a chief driver of its 2008 sales, have been delivered to clients ahead of schedule, the sources told DigiTimes.
MediaTek, founded in 1997 is headquartered in Taiwan and has sales and research subsidiaries in Mainland China, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and the USA.
