TechFaith Expands Reach into Latin American Market

China's TechFaith Wireless has announced the further expansion of its global reach into the Latin American market. The latest contract, awarded by a Latin American operator, is for CDMA 1X mid-end feature phones. Approximately 30,000 units were shipped between December 2007 and early January 2008.

Mr. Defu Dong, CEO of TechFaith, said, "Latin America is one of the fastest growing emerging markets with a lot of potential. Customers are looking for fashionable handsets with unique features. Carriers are playing a significant role in the market and they mainly demand tailor-made phones to satisfy different customer segments. Importantly, over the past few years local telecommunication infrastructure has been upgraded to a 3G network and multiple networks are now in operation. TechFaith's advantage in R&D and diversified original design product portfolio perfectly suit the local market characteristics. We believe rolling orders for both feature phone and smartphone from local operators will come in 2008 following the fulfillment of our prior shipment."

By the end of 2007, TechFaith's original design products were delivered globally to markets including Europe, Russia, Japan, North America, Latin America, South East Asia, India, Africa and the Middle East.
