Wi-Net Expects Client Base to Grow 40% in 2008

Peruvian wireless broadband provider Wi-Net expects to expand its client base 40% in 2008 from 325 at end-2007, company commercial director Augusto Fernández told BNamericas.

Wi-Net offers broadband services with speeds ranging from 512Kbps to 10Mbps and mainly targets the corporate segment, Fernández said.

According to the executive, the operator ended 2007 with a market share of 10% in the wireless broadband segment and expectations for this year are to expand that 18%.

The company has a license to offer wireless broadband nationwide but currently only has infrastructure in capital Lima.

"We are studying deploying infrastructure in other provinces of the country, especially in the north. Those plans are not for this year but possibly for 2009," Fernández said.

The executive added that broadband services accounted for 40% of Wi-Net's revenues in 2007 but was not able to provide further details on company revenues.

Wi-Net expects to launch IP telephony this year for the corporate segment and the initial target for 2008 is to end the year with 20 clients. The company's strategic partner for that project is US IP solutions provider Global Crossing, Fernández said.

Wi-Net also provides data transmission services and virtual private networks.
