AT&T Reported to Be Interested in Telekom Malaysia Stake

USA based AT&T is understood to be keen to buy a stake in Telekom Malaysia's mobile unit, TM International, local media has reported, citing unnamed sources. Telekom Malaysia is currently in the process of splitting itself into two separate companies - one landline and one mobile focused division. The mobile arm will be floated onto the stock market later this year and there has been speculation about a possible investor in the company.

Vodafone has been mentioned in the past, but the current crop of rumours suggest that AT&T may have an edge over Vodafone as it has an existing operation in Vietnam - a market that Telekom Malaysia is keen to enter.

Telekom Malaysia declined to comment on the report. "Telekom Malaysia wishes to inform that it does not comment on any news that is speculative in nature," it said in a statement.
