Free Wi-Fi in Mecca for the Hajj
A Wi-Fi network has been set up in the City of Mecca for Islamic Hajj, a pilgrimage expected to gather together more than three million Muslims. The network is being managed by Aptilo Networks, along with with Tropos Networks who provided the company's MetroMesh system for the deployment.
The broadband Wi-Fi network will be in place throughout the week of Hajj. Internet access is free; visitors need only to register to be able to use the service.
Aptilo's solution enables rapid deployment, a key benefit, as the Wi-Fi network will be enabled only for the week of Hajj.
"Millions of pilgrims will make their way to Mecca this year, many of whom bring their wireless devices, laptops etc.," said Torbjorn Ward, Chief Executive Office and Co-Founder, Aptilo Networks. "This installment leverages Aptilo's rapid deployment capabilities in a scalable platform that can adapt to a larger audience of users should the need arise. We are honored to be a part of this event, offering broadband wireless Internet access to the City of Mecca for this important occasion."
