POSDATA and KT Strike a Deal to Deploy Mobile WiMAX Network
South Korea's POSDATA and Korea Telecom (KT) have drawn up plans to establish a "Mobile WiMAX Town" in Pohang City, where the demand for Mobile WiMAX services is fairly high in all income classes due to a concentration of industrial, research, academic, and residential complexes. Both companies are planning to not only provide Internet access services but also develop a wide array of specialized Mobile WiMAX service models.
POSDATA will provide Mobile WiMAX base stations, ASN-gateways, network management systems, as well as terminals for service subscribers. The ASN-gateways will support WiMAX standard compatibility, and the base stations will be the latest models with Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 technologies such as the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) to increase the data processing capacity of Mobile WiMAX services. Commercial launching will be around Q3, 2008.
POSDATA also recently released a USB terminal that is connected to a notebook to receive Mobile WiMAX services and concluded a contract with KT on the supply of terminal, thereby creating an opportunity to fully establish itself as a total solution provider of Mobile WiMAX.
Mr. Shin Joon-il, Senior Vice President of POSDATA's Mobile WiMAX Division, said, "POSDATA's participation in this project to establish a Mobile WiMAX town is going to be a solid reference that will drive out global expansion of Mobile WiMAX business."
Pohang is a city of 500,000 people in the south of Korean peninsula.
