Sibirtelecom Shutting Down NMT Network
Russia's Sibirtelecom has announced that it will shut down its analogue NMT-450 network on January 10th 2008. All subscribers are being encouraged to migrate to the company's CDMA450 network instead. The company's operating license for the analogue service is being revoked.
Customers who still have an analogue handset are being told to visit one of the company's retail stores where they can upgrade to a CDMA phone while retaining their existing phone number.
Figures from the Mobile World database suggests that the company has fewer than 700 analogue customers. The company ended September with a total of 3.9 million subscribers, the majority of whom are on the company's GSM network.
