Starent Networks says that Mexican mobile operator Iusacell is using its' ST16 Multimedia Core Platform to deliver multimedia applications, such as streaming video, over its CDMA2000 1xEV DO Rev A network throughout Mexico.
The ST16 delivers powerful throughput, call transaction rates and packet processing, along with significant subscriber and network intelligence. For the Iusacell deployment, Starent Networks will provide the Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN) and Home Agent (HA) network elements along with geographic redundancy, Intelligent Traffic Control and Enhanced Lawful Intercept.
Iusacell chose Starent Networks' ST16 platform to enhance its network capabilities to deliver multimedia services, as well as help provide a robust roaming environment as subscribers travel throughout Mexico or come from abroad.
"Because of its experience and focus on the wireless space, Starent Networks understands our requirements on a detailed level and has provided us with the capabilities we demand," said Nestor Bergero, CTO of Iusacell.
"Latin America is a large growth area for mobile services and is an important region for mobile communications and for Starent Networks," said Ashraf Dahod, CEO of Starent Networks. "We are pleased to be working with Iusacell - Mexico's first 3G operator - as the company expands and continues to capture market share in this burgeoning area."
