Motorola Outsourcing Smartphone Development/Production
Motorola is seeking to repair its relations with Taiwan's OEM handset manufacturers and commission smart-phones from them, according to unnamed sources talking to the DigiTimes publication. The makers contacted include Compal Communication, Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS) and Arima Communications.
The earliest shipments are expected to be out in the second quarter of next year, the sources added.
While the Moto Q Series will continue to be developed and manufactured in-house, it seems that the company is looking to the OEMs to produce its Windows Mobile based HSDPA handsets in order to gain cost savings. The company aims reduce retail pricing to under US$350 before subsidies.
