Telefonica Appoints New UK Chief for O2, Management Changes

LONDON (Dow Jones) Telefonica, Wednesday appointed Ronan Dunne as Chief Executive of its U.K. O2 mobile phone business, replacing Matthew Key who is taking up the position of Chief Executive and Chairman of Telefonica O2 Europe.
Dunne, aged-44, has been Chief Financial Officer of O2 UK since February 2005 having first joined the company prior to its demerger from BT Group in 2001.
Dunne - who will take over from Matthew Key when he steps up to become European CEO on Jan 31., 2008 - played a key role in acquiring and integrating retail chain The Link from DSG International.
The company also announced several other management changes, including the appointment of Vivek Dev - its former director of strategy - to the position of Chief Operating Officer for Telefonica O2 Europe.
Telefonica O2 Europe's Chief Technology Officer Dave Williams will also leave the company in April 2008 to take a senior executive position in the United States.
