Easier Sending of SMS's in the Hinglish Language

The predictive text software, T9 has been translated into Hinglish - mixture of Hindi and English, which is spoken by around 350 million people in the Indian subcontinent. Specifically, the advanced T9 Text Input product offers enhanced Hinglish support, making it easier for users to use Hinglish words like chai, desi, jungli etc. while composing SMS messages.

This new upgrade joins additional features that were added to T9 Version 7 series software earlier. Among others, these new features include an enhanced word completion function and next word prediction.

"Keeping in mind the growth of Hinglish as the emerging language spoken especially by urban youth in India it becomes important for us to cater to this segment" said Eric Collins, General Manager & Vice President, Nuance. He added, "Today, as mobile phones and text messaging in particular gain mainstream acceptance in India, we are delivering on our mission to make text entry faster, simpler and more consumer friendly".

Hinglish T9 is the first T9 mixed-language database, consisting of tens of thousands of Hindi words transliterated into Latin script, as well as a vast English wordlist. A demo and early release of Hinglish T9 is now available for licensing to handset makers. Hinglish T9 joins the world's only extensive suite of Indic languages for predictive text input for mobile devices in vernacular script, including Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, and newly-released Kannada.
