Chilean mobile operator Entel PCS expects to have 6mn subscribers by end 2008 compared to 5.5mn by the end of this year, local newspaper Diario Financiero reported CEO Hern n Mari as saying.

This year's growth will represent a rise of over 15% compared to Entel's subscribers at end-2006.

Market leader Movistar passed the 6mn mark in the third quarter this year, while the third largest operator Claro expects to end the year with 2.8mn.

Entel's Mari said the company forecasts a similar rate of growth in its financial results, according to the report.

He also said that Entel expects to add 60,000 new subscribers in the mobile broadband segment this year. The executive believes there are many opportunities for the company in this segment as penetration is not as high as in mobile telephony.

Entel's total investments for 2007 are likely to come in at US$200mn, mainly earmarked for network expansion. Mari said planned investment for 2008 will be similar to the 2007 level.
