Honduran President Manuel Zelaya has temporarily placed his economy minister Jorge Rosa at the helm of state telco Hondutel , while former head Marcelo Chimirri faces charges of espionage, local paper El Financiero reported.
Rosa already sits on Hondutel's board and will serve as company president for a month before Zelaya names a definitive replacement for Chimirri, the report said.
Finance minister Rebeca Santos also serves on the Hondutel board.
Chimirri was forced to abandon his position at Hondutel after state investigators suspected collusion by the company's management in cases of phone tapping.
A search of Chimirri's home and office in November allegedly produced evidence of espionage and abuse of authority. Chimirri's trial is set to begin this week.
