Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom Orders Next-Gen IMS Platform
Nokia Siemens Networks has sealed a deal with Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom for its Next Generation Network IMS (NGN IMS). This is the first contract award from Chunghwa for its five-year NGN plan. Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver to Chunghwa infrastructure and services as part of its IMS Core solution, and will also provide its consumers and business customers VoIP and fixed softswitching solutions. These should enable Chunghwa to be the first operator in Asia-Pacific to introduce IMS-based VoIP services.
Deliveries will start in December.
Chunghwa is already using the Nokia Siemens Networks' 3G, fixed network, and legacy VoIP solutions. The FMC solution will be deployed turnkey, including network implementation and system integration services and warranty for a two year period to ensure the smooth migration. In addition, Chunghwa's technical staff will get domestic and overseas competence development trainings.
"This is an important and exciting agreement for Chunghwa Telecom, especially this is the first contract for our five-year NGN renewal plan. IMS is a key technology to further develop VoIP services and next generation telecommunications. Chunghwa is proud to be the first operator in Taiwan and in Asia Pacific to deploy IMS-based VoIP," said Mr Hsieh Chun-Ming, President of Taiwan Northern Business Group, Chunghwa Telecom. "Nokia Siemens Networks will provide Chunghwa with its advanced FMC strategy that will further enhance our leadership in both the fixed and mobile markets."
