Hits Telecom Makes Inaugural GSM Call in Uganda
Alcatel-Lucent and Hits Telecom Uganda have successfully performed the first call of HitsÃ' new GSM network in Uganda. Only three months after the selection of Alcatel Lucent as its strategic supplier, HITS Telecom has put the GSM network on air and on time.
The maiden call was made by H.E Uganda President Yoweri Museveni from his State House to Hon.Ham Mulira, the Minister for ICT in Clement Hill, the future Headquarters of Hits Telecom Uganda.
Under the agreement Alcatel-Lucent has supplied a full end-to-end GSM network as well as transmission solutions with microwave systems to dynamically optimize the transmission of voice and data traffic from the base stations to the core network. Alcatel-Lucent was responsible not only for complete network design and deployment, including OSS/BSS integration, but also helped Hits Telecom Uganda manage and maintain the network by providing a suite of managed services. Alcatel-Lucent also supplied its IP routing solution.
Hits Telecom Uganda is a new Uganda Telecom Operator, whose major shareholder are based in Abu Dhabi. HITS Telecom Uganda has been awarded a full telecommunications license, which includes the GSM 900/1800 spectrum, WIMAX broadband, international gateway, mobile virtual network operation and data transmission services.
