Uruguay's CTI Movil Expects to Invest US$20mn in 2008
Uruguayan mobile operator CTI Móvil expects to invest US$20mn in 2008 to expand coverage and improve service quality, local newspaper El PaÃs reported the company's general manager Gabriel Gutiérrez as saying.
Meanwhile, commercial manager Isaac Ribke said that the goal for next year is to reach 1mn clients in the country. The company currently has 650,000 subscribers.
CTI Móvil launched 3G services on November 22. 3G is currently available in capital Montevideo while during the first half of December the service is due to be available in the cities of Punta del Este and Colonia.
According to the report, the company invested US$9mn to launch 3G services. CTI Móvil expects to spend US$27mn in total in Uruguay in 2007.
CTI Móvil, a unit of Mexican telecommunications giant América Móvil,
announced earlier this year a 23% cut in mobile telephony rates in a bid to
capture subscribers from rival operators Ancel, a unit of state-owned telco
Antel, and Movistar, owned by Spanish telco Telefónica.
