GSM Coverage Expanded in The Bahamas
The Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) has announced the launch of GSM in the islands of Acklins, Crooked Island, Eleuthera and San Salvador. Over the last eleven months BTC has already launched GSM services in Grand Bahama, Abaco, Andros, Berry Islands, Bimini, Exuma, Inagua, Ragged Island and Rum Cay with the "GSM Gone Global" Campaign.
In Crooked Island the company invested $1.6 million dollars on three cell sites; one hundred and seventy thousand dollars ($170,000) in Acklins on three cell sites , $1.08 million dollars in San Salvador on two cell sites and $5.6 million in Eleuthera on thirteen cell sites.
GSM has been launched with limited coverage in these islands. BTC Project Management Teams are still working to ensure full island coverage and which the Company aims to have completed in 2008.
BTC is currently the sole provider of wireless services in The Bahamas.
