Russian Operator Orders Anti-Fraud Platform
Russia's VimpelCom has ordered a roaming fraud software package from Syniverse Technologies so that it can meet the GSM Association's new anti-fraud Near Real Time Roaming Data Exchange (NRTRDE) standard. Syniverse also provides all seven national operators in the VimpelCom group with data clearing services.
VimpelCom will use Syniverse DataNet, a solution developed in compliance with the GSMA's NRTRDE standard, to ensure data records that track subscriber roaming activity are exchanged more rapidly between home and visited operators in order to reduce roaming fraud. VimpelCom has moved forward with anti-fraud action well ahead of the GSMA's October 2008 deadline to for NRTRDE implementation.
"Although we have already chosen Syniverse as our new data clearing partner, we made an independent determination about which company would provide us with an NRTRDE-compliant solution," said Oksana Belyaeva, Marketing Director, VimpelCom. "After extensive review, we found the Syniverse DataNet solution clearly to be the most appropriate in the industry to fit our requirements. Not only does it offer the functionality we require, Syniverse's reputation and experience clearly give it an edge in this area. The company also has an extremely impressive leadership role within the GSMA in the development of the new NRTRDE standard."
Syniverse's DataNet solution will allow VimpelCom to drastically reduce the time normally taken using an outmoded High Usage Record (HUR) system to exchange roaming data records with their partners and, therefore, resolve fraudulent activity more rapidly. Such a reduction in time is projected to reduce the incidence of roaming fraud by up to 90 percent.
