Zain Opens Telecoms Lab at Jordanian University

Zain (formerly MTC) has opened a lab for mobile telecommunications at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) to boost practical experience for telecoms engineers in training. This lab is considered the first-of-its-kind across all universities in Jordan in terms of specialization and focus on mobile telecommunications that rely on the GSM and GPRS systems.

Hundreds of undergraduate and graduate engineering students are expected to benefit yearly from this lab in addition to those wishing to carryout specialized research in the fields of mobile telecommunications. Parallel to the lab initiative, Zain will offer several job opportunities to a number of students who pass the training stage with high levels of competence.

In preparation for receiving students over the next term, a number of Zain engineers have worked alongside the university professors and trained them on the use and handling of the GSM system and technical equipments.

During his visit to JUST, Zain CEO Saad Nasir said that this step aims at providing the young generation of engineers with exposure to the latest technologies in the mobile communications field. The lab will serve as a training ground for Electrical Engineering students, particularly those specializing in Communications Engineering, to assist them in gaining the practical training they need alongside their theoretical studies, such that they are ready to work in the telecommunications industry as soon as they graduate.

Nasser also announced plans to open a similar lab at the University of Jordan over the next few months.
