Chinese Government Awards TechFaith Pocket PC Phone Contract

China's Ministry of Public Security Information Center has awarded TechFaith a contract to custom develop a pocket PC phone for the police forces in two provinces in China. TechFaith says that this is its first contract from a Chinese government organization. The initial shipment is expected in December of 2007.

The phone will feature GPS functionality to speed police action, an ID scanner, information collection and synchronization, and other features related to onsite law enforcement. Under the contract, TechFaith will be responsible for software integration and manufacturing of the handsets. Shenzhen Security Software Science and Technology Development Co, the biggest public security wireless solution provider in China, will provide public security software for the phone.

This is TechFaith's first contract from a customer that is not in the telecommunication sector. The Company expects to benefit from strong demand in the broader, non-telecommunication market going forward as its custom developed phones are adopted to meet needs ranging from security and surveillance, to data management, GPS/location based tracking and other various data and communications needs.

TechFaith is an original design manufacturer, or ODM, focused on research and development of cell phones and handsets based in China.
