India's Tata Teleservices has unveiled a Hindi language version of it's "Tata Zone", the infotainmentspace on Tata Indicom BREW-enabled mobile phones. The company says that this is the first Hindi language mobile portal in India. Tata Teleservices says that the rationale behind this is simple: - 66% of all Indians speak Hindi, while less than 5% understands English. As the majority of English speakers are in the fast-growing middle-class sector, adding a Hindi language service should help the company expand its mobile content sales to the rural markets which have traditionally focused on voice and SMS only.
Mr Pankaj Sethi, President (VAS), Tata Teleservices said, "We are confident that our customers will cherish our unique offering. This initiative will also further widen the reach of data services to a new segment hitherto unexposed to various exciting value-added services owing to language barrier. The Hindi language interface will go a long way in taking the data usage and application download pattern in India to the next level."
On Tata Zone- Hindi, customers will have access to unlimited fun and entertainment through a variety of applications like Cricket, Faith and Prayers, Bollywood and Hollywood movies, News, Astrology, Funzone, and Games. The entertainment-packed zone also features an impressive and latest collection of ringtones and wallpapers.
"Tata Indicom Hindi speaking customers will now have access to host of entertainment and internet services that will add further fun and excitement in our handsets. Launch of Tata Zone in Hindi underlines our commitment of delivering the best-suited telecom services to India", Mr. Pankaj Sethi further added.
