Report: Telemig, Amazonia Eying Fixed Mobile Launch
Brazilian sister mobile companies Telemig Celular Participacoes and Norte Celular Participacoes (Amazonia Celular) are planning to launch fixed mobile services, local news site IT Web reported.
Telemig is the leading mobile service provider in Brazil's third wealthiest state of Minas Gerais, while Amazonia serves the country's northeast.
The operators were acquired by Brazil's largest mobile operator Vivo in August for 1.21bn reais (US$644mn).
The news follows the announcement by Vivo and Brazil's second largest mobile company TIM Brasil in the Futurecom telecoms industry conference held in Sao Paulo from October 1-4 that they plan to launch fixed mobile hybrid telephony services this month.
The goal of launching the service is to expand the postpaid client base by offering more services, Telemig's president Andre Mastrobuono was quoted as saying.
Fixed mobile services operate using hybrid handsets that work both as fixed line and mobile phones.
